Gary Zgonc (pronounced Za-gonse) is no stranger to the video industry, having worked in broadcast television for nearly three decades. He joined the Home Video Studio Film Transfer Department about three years ago after leaving WPTA-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana as an engineer for the past 25 years.
Gary is excited to work with HVS' cutting-edge video software. He is amazed with just the touch of a button how this computerized equipment can turn an "old" home movie into a high quality work of art. Gary has contributed his engineering know-how to this transferring process by modifying HVS' Sniper movie projector to virtually eliminate film breakage. His newest invention is developing a sound film transfer system for HVS, which allows us to process all film orders in house.
One of Gary's other job assignments is coordinator of HVS' Great American Home Movie Project. Gary is collecting films from studio owners from across the country that could be used in HVS founder Robert Hanley's planned documentary feature film project. It's a win/win program for studio owners and film customers alike.
This native of Cleveland, Ohio was drafted into the Air Force during the Vietnam War and fortunately was stationed in England during his four years of service. He was part of the military's Electronic Intelligence unit. After coming home, Gary graduated Cleveland State with a bachelor's degree in Mass Media, spending his senior year studying abroad in his new favorite haunt of Jolly Ol' England!
Gary originally worked in radio in his hometown. An internship at WKYC-TV in Cleveland led to a fulltime engineering position at the NBC owned-and-operated affiliate. Gary worked in the station's news and sports departments and enjoyed covering Cleveland Indians baseball and Cleveland Browns football. Today, he's an Indianapolis Colts fan.
He is glad, however, to be done with the crazy work schedule associated with the demands of broadcast news and says he appreciates the creative and fun atmosphere at Home Video Studio. When not working, Gary enjoys woodcarving, playing golf and exercising. He has a daughter Erin.
